This is the third consecutive year that Corvus has received the Supplier of the Year award and a first time win for Innovation of the Year. The award recipients are decided up on by a panel of highly regarded industry experts.

Visedo signs two electrical-equipment deals

Visedo, a Finnish manufacturer of electric drivetrains for heavy-duty vehicles and vessels, said it formed partnerships with two companies to develop new electrically powered winches and propulsion systems for the marine industry.
At this year’s Electric & Hybrid Marine World Expo in Amsterdam, Visedo announced the agreements with Kongsberg Evotec and Veth Propulsion.
As part of the agreement with Kongsberg, Visedo will develop and produce fully integrated electric deck-handling winches to replace traditional hydraulic versions, allowing Kongsberg to offer electric winches with full system integration and control.
Working with Veth Propulsion, Visedo will produce electrically powered thrusters that feature Visedo’s permanent magnet motor technology. The two companies have co-developed the Integrated L-Drive, a compact, high-efficiency electric propulsion unit with power output that ranges from 300kW to 1,325kW. The propulsion system has already been ordered for many projects that are under construction.
“We’re proud to be offering the marine industry more options to fully electrify their on-board equipment and lessen fuel costs and associated emissions,” Visedo CEO Kimmo Rauma said in a statement. “The revolution to electrify more marine applications rolls on.”
Regarding the partnership with Veth, Rauma said, “As well as delivering hybrid and electric solutions for primary propulsion solutions of marine vessels, Visedo is now ensuring thruster power can be delivered with zero emissions and lower fuel costs. The collaboration made sense after both companies witnessed the growing demand in high-efficiency compact electric propulsion solutions that reduce fuel costs and associated emissions for the marine operator and overall industry.”
“We are happy to work closely with Visedo in getting new innovative solutions into the marine handling market,” said Steinar Aabelvik, general manager of Kongsberg Evotec. “In particular we are very much focused on developing weight- and space-saving solutions that, at the same time, remain competitive.”
Earlier this year Visedo helped launch Asia’s first hybrid electric passenger ferry in Taiwan. Last month, Finland’s first fully electric ferry was launched with a Visedo propulsion system, and the company is developing the propulsion for the first hybrid electric trimarans and the world’s largest electric ferry, The E-Ferry.
